PAS Khianat Amanah Allah

Presiden Amerika Syarikat, Barack Hussein Obama II pernah berkata “There is no short-cut to peace” (tidak ada jalan pintas untuk keamanan) apabila Pertubuhan Bangsa-bangsa Bersatu (PBB) menganjurkan kenaikan taraf Palestin sebagai ahli pertubuhan itu. Kenaikan ini sekaligus akan menyebabkan Palestin diterima dunia sebagai sebuah negara yang berdaulat dan ini ditentang hebat oleh Israel dan kuncunya Amerika Syarikat.

Tanggal 17 Ogos 2014. Sebenarnya hari itu adalah hari yang pahit buat Malaysia. Sama ada rakyat mahu sedar atau tidak, terpulanglah kepada mereka. Bagi saya, tarikh ini sangat menduka-citakan sehingga air mata jantan ini menitis mengenangkan perbuatan segelintir pemimpin. Sudahlah Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor dikhianati dan dizalimi, PAS yang kononnya  menegakkan keadilan dan kebenaran atas nama Islam telah gagal dalam ujian integriti yang Allah SWT telah berikan.

Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim kini seorang diri dalam menegakkan yang benar tentang dirinya. Alim ulama berjanggut, bermisai, berserban yang sebelumnya mempertahankan beliau telah berubah fikiran dalam masa yang singkat. Hanya kerana Khalid tidak lagi bersama Pakatan Rakyat. Eh, tidak tahu lagikah? Khalid dibuang parti secara tidak adil kerana tidak diberi peluang memperjelaskan apa-apa pun. Bukannya dia sendiri yang mahu tinggalkan Pakatan Rakyat.

Saya yang beribu batu jauhnya pun boleh merasakan betapa ruginya PAS setelah menolak peluang untuk bersatu demi Islam dan Malaysia. Mungkin ada yang kata saya ini isti’jal (tergesa-gesa) dalam mahukan keamanan negara melalui kesatuan ummah. Ingat, Obama berkata “there is no short-cut to peace”. Perkara pertama yang terlintas di fikiran saya apabila disuruh jangan isti’jal adalah kata-kata Barack Obama yang zalim terhadap rakyat Palestin ini. Bagi saya, “Peace should be made as a priority and there is ALWAYS a short-cut to peace” (Keamanan itu adalah utama dan jalan pintas SENTIASA ada untuk keamanan).

Jadi, apa kena-mengena keputusan PAS dengan keamanan Malaysia yang saya mahukan? Tidak tahulah bagi anda tetapi tidak jemukah soal-soal agama dan perkauman dijadikan alat bagi memecah-belahkan rakyat Malaysia? Tidak pernah-pernah sebelum ini laungan azan masjid dipersoalkan, lembu dijadikan sembelih korban boleh menjadi kontroversi, kalimah “Allah” dipolitikkan, masjid, gereja, kuil Hindu dan Buddha dibakar, kepala lembu dijaja bagi mencabar rakan-rakan beragama Hindu, Ramadhan dipelawa dengan bak kut teh, pemimpin menyokong umat Islam diberikan kebebasan murtad, yang berbangsa India dipanggil “Peria”, yang Cina dipanggil babi, yang Melayu dipanggil orang hutan, agama Kristian dipermain-mainkan,  kitab bible dijadikan wadah politik, fatwa tentang perkara yang jelas berbeda-beda dan lain-lain lagi. Saya ini tidaklah begitu tua tetapi sepengetahuan saya, perkara-perkara ini telah menjadi-jadi apabila rakyat Malaysia tidak bersatu sejak tahun 2008.

Sebelum ini saya ada menulis tentang pentingnya umat Islam bersatu supaya rakyat Malaysia bersatu dan peluang besar ini gagal digenggam oleh PAS. Katanya UMNO itu jahat (PKR tidak jahat), UMNO itu kafir (DAP tidak kafir), UMNO itu korup (PKR, DAP tidak korup), UMNO itu mengamalkan kronisme dan nepotisme (PKR, DAP tidak). Ketua Umum PKR mahukan isterinya jadi Menteri Besar Boneka Selangor dan sanggup menikam sahabatnya yang saya sendiri akui sebagai menteri besar yang terbaik Selangor pernah ada. Apa lagi yang tidak jelasnya? Khilaf juga?

Saya tidak setuju dengan kenyataan beberapa pemimpin yang berbaur perkauman. Umat Islam bersatu tidak bermakna yang bukan Islam akan dihina, dicerca, dihukum, dianak-tirikan sampai tidak boleh “angkat muka”. Islam mengikut sejarah yang ada tidak pernah melakukan diskriminasi berdasarkan agama dan kaum. Yang dicanang oleh penulis Barat tentang kezaliman negara Islam berkenaan Jizya (cukai kepada yang bukan Islam) tidak menyebut tentang adanya Zakat (cukai untuk yang beragama Islam). Nabi Muhammad mengharamkan riba’ kepada penduduk Yahudi dalam negara Islamnya bukan bermaksud diskriminasi. Agama mereka sendiri mengharamkan riba’! Lagipun riba’, arak, judi, zina dan liwat adalah perkara-perkara yang tidak baik pun untuk masyarakat. Sekiranya dalam kehidupan saya, umat Islam Malaysia bersatu tetapi berlaku tidak adil terhadap yang bukan Islam, saya sendiri yang jelik dengan menunjuk perasaan ,akan berguling-guling di atas jalan raya membangkang!

Berfikirlah sejenak. Tidak ada agama yang zalim dan Islam sebenarnya adalah agama yang reformis. Daripada masyarakat yang jahil, membunuh anak-anak perempuan, menghina kaum wanita, berzina, berjudi dengan anak panah… Islam hadir tepat pada waktunya dan merubah kehidupan masyarakat Arab ketika itu dan kini seluruh dunia.

Apa lagi yang pemimpin PAS tunggu, entah lah. Katanya drama Selangor belum tamat lagi. Boleh pula mencadangkan pemimpin politikus yang tidak disenangi rakyat Selangor sebagai pelan B. Katanya Khalid terpaksa pergi demi kestabilan Selangor. Padahal yang mengkucar-kacirkan Selangor adalah PKR. Katanya tidak perlu tergesa-gesa dalam menegakkan kebenaran dan selesaikan krisis Selangor. Padahal tahu Sultan tidak mahukan Wan Azizah sebagai khalifah Selangor. Padahal jika PAS bersama yang benar, Selangor dan Malaysia dengan izin Allah akan stabil, makmur dan harmoni.

Asalkan jika niat berkerja demi rakyat. Bukan demi politik.

Hudud in Malaysia

Yes, it has come back after about five years of silence. Hudud has come back to center stage. Why did I say five years? After 2008, Pakatan Rakyat leaders from PKR, PAS and DAP actually believe they could wrest Putrajaya from the ruling coalition of more than 50 years, Barisan Nasional. They need to be more united than ever, and certain compromises had to be done. DAP agreed to be more inclusive of the Bumis and would even go far from mentioning that the rights of the Bumis will be abolished. PAS, will restrain from making over-zealous comments and the holier-than-thou attitude was shunned "indefinitely" by bringing slogans to portray as if "PAS is for All". "Negara Islam" was then changed to "Negara Kebajikan". PAS did not even push for Hudud to be in the "Buku Jingga", the long-term masterplan of the administration of Pakatan Rakyat Federal Government should they come to power. Meanwhile PKR, would just stay as they are. Multi-racial, holding up the Constitution. Whoring supports through lies and controversies.

 

After the Chinese Tsunami failed to clinch Putrajaya but gave DAP a commanding 38 Parliamentary seats, it sent jitters to their ally PAS who saw many seats in Kelantan being taken away and their Parliamentary seats reduced. Fear that they might gone overboard by overlooking the grassroots supporters who are mostly pious Muslims, the compromises made during that five years did not seem to be pooling dividends. Alas, PAS is back with their Islamic rhetoric only a year after the 13th General Election.

 

As a Muslim, I am not denying Hudud, at any cost. Who am I to question the Almighty and what is the use of living in this world if there is no God? I would not say that I am the best of Ustazs but maybe this piece is simply to remind the Non-Muslims in Malaysia what we Muslims, who are the majority in the Malaysian population, believe.

 

We believe that the word "Allah" is exclusive to us Malaysian Muslims. Since the question of language plays a role, we do not feel the Non-Muslims in Malaysia should use this word freely because you guys are not even Arabic speakers. Even the Christian Arabs mostly use "Ar-Rab" in the Bibles. The complication that we have is the Christian community in Sabah and Sarawak have been using the Indonesian version Bibles where the word "Allah" is referred to what they believe as their God. Since it doesn't look to be easy to take this away from the Sabah and Sarawak Christian community, it is decided by the Government to just let it be. Status quo.

 

We also believe in Hudud, as commanded by Allah. I know the Non-Muslims in Malaysia fear that they would have their hands chopped off for giving bribery or receive death by stoning for keeping a mistress in one of those studios, SOHOs, SOFOs in the Klang Valley but as far as I know, when you talk about the Malaysian context, the separation of laws between Shariah law (which is a State matter under the Constitution) and the secular (criminal and civil) law would see the Non-Muslims being free of the Shariah law.

 

However, it is not as simple as that. The punishment for crimes are very different in both laws. For example, what would a Non-Muslim man gets if he was caught of khalwat ? (close proximity, or in my own words, caught pants down, literally). The thing is though, I do not see Hudud as a law to punish people but more of a preventive law. You should also know that Hudud promotes forgiveness and if the criminal was forgiven by the victim's family, he or she is spared from the punishment. But of course some of you did not know this before because all that was playing in your head is to be Islamophobic, prejudiced, ticking Islam at any chance you get, racist and so on.

 

Lets go back to the example of khalwat above, or lets make it up by one more level - adultery. Adultery is an act of extramarital sex and is seen to be the mother of all sins to you women out there, especially the feminists. Logically speaking, feminists of all people should be supporting hudud like diehard fans! Funny though most of the protestors across the Beverly Hills Hotel featuring Jay Leno had the sign "Feminists are the Majority", boycotting the Sultan of Brunei for implementing hudud in the country he rule. According to the holy book Al-Quraan, the punishment for adultery is death by stoning. Dear feminists, Yay or Nay? That's why I have said this before that feminists do not really know what they want. To me, feminists are also extremists. Islam meanwhile, promotes moderation (wasatiyyah).

 

Death by stoning is extreme, not moderation you say? Like I said earlier, Shariah Law is more of a preventive law rather than punishing. In the case of a Non-Muslim dude committing adultery with someone's wife (which again, the biggest sin to the feminists), under Hudud, this actually will not happen at the first place! That someone's wife know about the repercussion, the risk of doing it with this guy. SHE COULD BE STONED TO DEATH! What horror, seconds later that necessary fear starts sinking in and it is actually fear of God that comes to play (And yes we Muslims should fear God). So she would just keep calm and reject the baldy hunk and straight away seek fasakh (divorce initiated by the wife) from the wrong man she married.

 

By the way. it has also come to my attention that Hudud is actually in the Bible as well especially the stoning as above, but linked to more sins. Since I am not a Christian and Islam taught me to respect other religions, I will leave it to my Christian brothers and sisters of the following interpretations from the Bible:

When the politicians started bashing PAS for wanting to table the Hudud plan for Kelantan, they actually forgot (or ignorant) about the fact that we Muslims believe in Hudud. Fearing loss of support from the Muslims, it is only politically correct that PAS has to come back with their Hudud stance and feeling disappointed after being rejected by the Chinese, UMNO shows a silent support. Sad enough, the next Parliamentary seating could even blow up the sides into Muslims and Non-Muslims because of Hudud. It was truly a fatal mistake for the Non-Muslims especially the Chinese to reject the winning coalition in General Election 13. As we speak, there is no Chinese representative (MCA) in the Cabinet but so many in the Opposition through DAP. The constant bashing of Muslims by Christian or Non-Muslims NGOs (most recently the UiTM alleged "Anti-Christian" talk) certainly do not help. The Muslims might seem stupid or pleasant people but silently they realise they are losing if they are not united, at least for UMNO and PAS leaders.

 

PM Najib Razak might afterall give freedom to any member of the BN component parties to reject, approve or abstain from voting when the Hudud Bill for Kelantan is tabled. Traditionally, Barisan Nasional would find a consensus from the component parties and to vote yes or no, like how it happened in the GST Bill. However, he is indeed a politician through and through, having set foot into the political scene at a tender age of 23. He was the first to coin the words "Chinese Tsunami" right after the General Election 13 result was announced. Like PAS, he was pushed back to reality that Malaysians are too divided to be united thanks to the dividing education system (vernacular schools expecially) and economic racial disparity. Announcing this freedom, he is playing a huge gamble but might hit the lottery gaining the support of the Muslims majority. If Hudud for Kelantan is passed, there would even be a huge call to invite PAS into the Barisan Nasional coalition, making it stronger, to the expense of the Non-Muslims' (especially the Chinese) already shrinking representatives in the Government.

 

Just like Hudud in the example of whether that someone's wife would sleep with anyone else, Hudud would have not been tabled in the Parliament should there was no such Chinese Tsunami. The Chinese are indirectly the proponents of Hudud. With a strong MCA in the Government, Hudud issue would just come and go, like in 2004. Power sharing or not, the minorities need strong representatives in a ruling Government.

 

So, there you have it. You were the ones who voted and now you have to bear the consequences. This is not permanent though, if you vote again wisely come the 14th General Election.

Snippets: How I would solve current Malaysian issues if I were PM

On Kalimah "Allah" issue...
Christians in Malaysia who are actually using the BM version of the bible (Sabah and Sarawak) would be encouraged to use the Malaysian version, not the Indonesian version of the bible. "Allah" shall never appear in these bibles because the more appropriate one to be used is "Tuhan", so to protect Christianity itself and the sensitivity of the Muslims who refer their one and only God, who do not bear a son nor that He has a father, as Allah.

On rising prices...
Controlled goods are controlled goods. If suppliers/retailers increase the prices of controlled goods above the maximum allowed, they will be punished heavily and jailed as well. It is also a high time for Malaysians to reap higher salaries especially in the Multinational companies. Minimum wage can be introduced and also set a clear salary benchmark for the public to see for each general occupations. Companies which meet this benchmark will be rewarded in some tax exemptions.

On people spewing racial, religious hatred...
They should be detained under sedition act. While I was against the ISA being abolished, I would also not welcome it back at this time (flip flop is a sign of weakness). The Act that replaces ISA should avoid making political arrests, unless it was clear what was uttered by politicians, regardless of party, religion or race, would cause disharmony and disunity.

On the motor industry...
Proton and Perodua should continuously be protected by the Government but we will not be pumping Rakyat's money anymore for their Research and Development. With Lotus under its wings, Proton should start using their technology fully to make better cars, not just its handling. Protectionism here would be the current price discrimination that we have against imported cars. Foreign cars shall continue to be expensive with the current duties and tax in place. Proton aftersales will be monitored so that they reach a world class level. Proton and Perodua cars will be made cheaper, to the extend that they are so cheap but in high quality, Malaysians will come back to Proton and Perodua.

On Shiah in Malaysia...
Shiah pracitices will never be allowed here in Malaysia. The Muslims are too divided already by three political parties and it would only be worse to have a Syiah sect joining the fray. Those involved will be caught for insulting the official religion Islam.

On Anwar's "olive branch offer" for reconciliation...
Truth be told despite Anwar's moral issues, he still has the backing of a large number of Rakyat. If we could agree on the things above and for him to convince his followers on the right thing to do, apolitical and unpopular even, then national reconciliation will be on the right track. If he is sincere enough, he would not ask for positions, favours or money even. Rakyat will reward him if he toes the line.
  

MF: Full of racist chauvinist Malaysians

Memang dasar Cina DAP betul nak tembak apa saja yang boleh when comes to Bumiputra-Muslims. Racist chauvinistic Chinese traits are being shown as much as ever since May 13 election.




Dah kalah tu kalah laaa... Stop blaming and attacking Islamic, Bumiputra values.



I did TITAS when I was in UiTM Malaysia. At first I thought it's a syllabus that siswazah boleh tidur je. Turned out, its one of the best subjects. Why? That was the first time my view about Jews change. Before that, as a typical Muslim raised in Malaysia, we were told the Jews are to be condemned. Kau tanyalah Melayu dekat Malaysia bila datang soal Yahudi, semua akan melenting. Ingat tak insiden Avram Grant kena boo dekat stadium? I was not one of them! Why? Because of TITAS!



The good ustaz told me about how the Jews of the modern world are the decendants of the good Jews who follow the religion of Moses which was originally also... Islam. The pharoahs and his supporters were killed by famine and the world at that time dah pun terkelangkup (surely racist chauvinist Chinese DAP tak paham this word).



Takda langsung soal nak kutuk agama lain ke, bangsa lain ke. So just because this racist chauvinistic Chinese DAP MP cakap macam ni, engkorang dah terus nak caya and nak cakap TITAS tu jahat.



Piiiraaah! Go to the class first then complain. I have my own experience to tell and because of TITAS I am now a changed man. My thoughts on the Jews, on the Iranians Shiahs, the Christians, the Buddhists the Hindus all change. I swear on my grandpa's grave that what I stated above is true. I dunno if you can find them on my blog because I remember writing about this experience before.



And by God, it was from the TITAS. I passed the subject by simply attending the classes. Also, I thought this subject is only compulsory for Muslims.



And what the heck is this about aborigines pulak? TITAS bunuh orang asli rights? Tak payah laa nak twist and turns and attacking Islam in this great Ramadhan (and you think you will get away with it. And you think brave Muslims will just shut up like some others in this forum yang kononnya tak racist ramai kawan bukan Melayu?). As far as I know, Orang Asli are Bumiputras and they should receive all the bumirights and special position as enshrined in the Constitution.



I wonder why there is no topic here about ALVIVI sexbloggers who were parading their small, ugly assets and think it's cool? Not to mention buat ucapan bukak puasa dengan babi wangi dan menyelerakan? Because they are Chinese? Gimme a break!



TITAS to make compulsory for all Muslim students in local and private varsities. Hell yeah. As far as I know, it's all good.



And those racist, chauvinist people regardless of race, veiled-attacking Islam should just look at themselves in the mirror and repent. Racism is so 90s!

There has not been much heated debate on this list in a while, so below my thoughts on the so-called 'Islamic Civilisation' class (TITAS) that may be soon imposed on our university students.

My conclusion: it's MICO in disguise and is a smokescreen to get our attention away from other 'unIslamic' (and generally inhuman) goings-on, such as an amendment to the Aboriginal People's Act which may see the Orang Asli losing >80% of the land they claim. And of course, there is the TPPA and a few other things like that happening at the moment. Small wonder that the 'Allah issue' has been brought up again.

Will Malaysians fall into the trap? That is the question.

All counter-arguments, brickbats, hot coals etc. are welcome. But I may not respond till next week.

1. Letter to my MP regarding compulsory Islamic Civ. in Malaysian universities

Regarding these articles, if the reporting is accurate, as a constituent of Beruas, I would like to register my disagreement with some of the views expressed --- especially: “How will this help those who are studying to become lawyers, doctors and engineers?” --- and to propose a different approach, which I hope will be more constructive.



It is never a loss when we learn about other civilisations. Indeed, when one studies different civilisations (or even the same civilisation but at different points in history) one can learn from their mistakes and also their achievements. But of course nothing must be imposed on the students.



What we are observing now in French universities is that the hyper-specialisation of doctors, lawyers, engineers etc. is leading to people who only know how to 'execute' --- who can build wonderful railways, nuclear centres and what not --- but who do not know why they are doing all these things and who do not have any larger vision for the world and their place in it. This is in part due to the semi-destruction and 'chopping up' of the Sorbonne (and other French universities) which started during the Revolution, continued under Napoleon and has only become worse since --- such that lawyers only study law, physicists only study physics etc. and there is no formation of the whole person. I believe this may be one of the root causes (or at least one of the correlate symptoms) of the European crisis (economic, but also moral, leadership, cultural and civilisational) that we are going through now.



At the moment I and others are fighting very hard to have the humanities (and social sciences) re-introduced at the Université Paris-Sud, which is basically half of the 'chopped up' Sorbonne's old science faculty. As part of this effort, I may be teaching a philosophy/history of ideas course in 2014-2015.



For Malaysia, I propose as a solution that diverse civilisational studies should be offered: Western European, Slavic, Indian, Japanese, American, African, Middle Eastern etc. but that none should be imposed. Malaysia and Malaysians are in a unique position to study and learn from many cultures as we are already a multicultural society and we have ties to many other countries around the world. This is a huge advantage that we have over other countries, e.g. France. We must let this advantage blossom rather than letting certain parties turn it into a disadvantage.



Another proposal is to develop the field of South East Asian civilisational studies. SEA 'entered into history' several centuries ago now and yet we do not seem to have our own identity. Instead, we are borrowing from from the West, the Middle East, the Far East and everywhere. It is time to develop our own identity especially in view of growing intra-ASEAN ties, including the ASEAN EC in 2015. This will also help build up Malaysian national identity instead of pulling us in different directions.



I would be happy to share further observations about the education system here (and in the US) if this will help your reflection.

2. Some initial comments in a discussion with some friends (of diverse religious backgrounds)



informal reports from local unis says that sometimes the 'lecturers' are zealots who turn the 'civilisation' course into a 'conversion' course. these should be checked. if true, i don't think this is doing islam any favours or improving its image. one suggestion i made is to have ALL students take a 'multicultural' class on a culture they are not familiar with. (another is in the letter above.) but before it can be implemented, all the zealots have to be weeded out, whether from the Islamic civilisation course, the Russian civ. course, the Western civ. course, the Indian civ. course or the Buddhist civ. course: our neighbours in Myanmar have shown that 'even' Buddhists can be extremists. is the western silence on the rohingya massacre due to the fact that the 'west' can't wrap their heads around this? This sort of 'multicultural' requirement was in place at my alma mater and i believe in many american unis. so it can be done...again, provided there are no zealots of any kind involved, whether buddhist, hindu, atheist, shia, catholic, lutheran, sunni, alevi, sufi, ibadi, s.i.b., anglican or other. there were some atheist zealots at my old uni, but i survived. ** i believe that each student learning about other cultures (even 'strange' ones for us like russian, japanese, african etc.) will help broaden people's minds and help us to get closer to '1malaysia' and maybe 'one global village'. but not imposing one course on everyone: that will only increase distrust and hatred.





the immediate problem for malaysia is that the trappings of islam (i do not say islam itself) have been used to serve certain political purposes: http://asiapacific.anu.edu.au/newmandala/2013/05/17/ways-of-seeing-malaysia-deconstructing-demographic-violence/we are not even at the level of discussing 'fundamentals' about different ways of seeing the world as it were, because we are stuck at another level of 'power plays'.



the challenge for whoever would lead malaysia is this: can they offer a way for malaysians to think difference as peace and unity instead of violence --- violence either in the form of Apollonian 'totality' or Dionysian chaos? (The former is very close to what we have at the moment.) i think malaysians are longing for a true vision of peace but so far nobody has stepped forward to offer this. also, this is a question that is facing many across the world at the moment. malaysians, and especially malaysian leaders, are in a unique position to provide an answer which will be a huge step forward for mankind --- or to fail miserably.

Dear friends, I have had the opportunity to look a little more closely at the TITAS syllabus now and I have come to a rather distressing conclusion. So distressing that I'm getting this down in writing before I go to bed: TITAS is MICO in disguise.

TITAS seems almost like a 'Malaysian studies' course, except it takes a particular view of Malaysia which I think is actually very harmful to Malaysia.





1. There is no discussion of Orang Asal. The subliminal message is Our dear Kadazan, Murut, Bajau, Lun Bawang, Jakun, Sakai etc. friends: you do not exist. Full stop. Or, 'you don't have any culture', which amounts to the same thing. To exist, you must now choose: do you want to be M, I or C? Pick your side in the 'great Malaysian civil war', but you cannot be yourselves.



2. The syllabus is designed to divide Malaysians into hard categories and to tell them that 'these "civilisations" will always be different and they will always be antagonistic and mutually exclusive. Particularly worrying are the parts about 'interactions with other cultures'. What will be said here? I would not be surprised if the discussion is framed in terms of conflict and 'irreconciliable differences'. I am also worried about the 'survival' chapters, whic might be what Kessler describes as 'trying to induce a siege mentality':http://asiapacific.anu.edu.au/newmandala/2013/06/12/malaysias-ge13-what-happened-what-now-part-1/ All this is totally contrary to any effort to build up a Malaysian identity and Malaysian unity.

Imagine a Malaysia where people went around calling themsleves Hakka-Scots-Lun Bawang. Or Jakun-Irish-Sumatran. Or Kutien-Irish-Burmese. Or Keralan-Hokkien-Murut. Or Tamil-Temiar-Batak-Peranakan. Would it help Malaysian unity? Of course, by creating 'human bridges' across different cultures and identities. And the fact is that many Malaysians are very mixed. But true Malaysian unity would hurt certain interests. The interests of coalitions whose parties are divided accoring to the 'headings' of the TITAS syllabus chapters above.



In GE13, many Malaysians rejected race-based interests. The political parties then had two choices in order to remain relevant: 1. Change (e.g. disband or merge race-based parties), or 2. Try to make those Malaysians striving for unity 'racist as usual' again. It looks like certain parties have made their choice clear. This syllabus is clearly designed to firmly divide Malaysians into hermetic categories and to convey the idea that these 'hard categories' of people should never 'mix'. This is a truly sad day for Malaysia. The presentation of this course as 'Islamic civilisation' was a clever trick to distract attention from the real contents and also to provoke a reaction from Perkasa analogue groups from other religions. And it succeeded.



Not incidentally, as explained in my article above, this 'way of seeing Malaysia' is also used to quietly 'wipe out' the Orang Asal. Is it any coincidence that the Aboriginal People's Act is being amended at the same time that TITAS came out?



My friends, certain people are trying to distract us by making us hate each other while they quietly steal away the tanah pusaka of the Orang Asli. (East Malaysian natives may be next but for the moment there are too many of them in the cabinet.)



Let's not fall into this trap. I hope that no true Muslim will fall for this. Nor any true believer of any other religion. Nor atheists who believe in the dignity of the human person and the common good.



Let us expose TITAS for what it is (another attempt to divide and rule Malaysians) and move on to the real fight. Let us unite and fight for our weaker brethren whose land is being taken away from them.

Hijab & Hudud wont make us more Taliban

I have been trying to understand what is the big fuss a bout covering up after a recent outrage about models needing to follow some dress codes for billboard advertisement. I believe this so called outrage is politically motivated since those tikus politikus still think every single Malaysian adore them. I honestly feel that people grew tired of the political slandering and self-praise but rather the people just want to see the result of good governance and policies.

I personally agree that models should wear decently on billboards. These models are someone's son or daughter or father or mother and the reason they were called models is because they should set an example to our kids. And just to point out, how many of you parents here would like to see your children wearing so revealing? I know I wouldn't for the sake of my unborn children.

The thought of setting out dress codes for models depicting the way of Taliban is somewhat far fetched. Please read what and who are the Talibans. Little did they realise, the sudden attacks on these Talibans, hudud and PAS will create an opportunity for racist, anti-Muslim scum from among our people to attack Islam the religion of peace and justice. Stupid Stats were also given out claiming 1.2 Million people will be jobless, cunningly said because more people will have their hands cut for stealing / bribery.

Islam's answer is simple. Do not steal, do not take bribes. And your hands will still be attached to your body!

I know PAS is only using hudud and the push for an Islamic state for their political gain. I bet they should because many of their supporters are Muslims who believe in the Islamic agenda. For many years PAS has been consistent about hudud until about 3 to 4 years ago when "ulamas" from the "Erdogans" camp site boldly stated that hudud should not be applied when there are still poor people who are forced to steal!

Says who? These Erdogans playing God now? I myself was left disappointed by these Erdogans stand and the leaders of PAS kept mum about it, maybe in a way to please other Pakatan component parties. Or maybe under the directive of the not so great "PM-designated" Anwar Ibrahim, the Tok Wali of the PAS-DAP marriage.

You ever wonder why suddenly people are talking about Hudud in Malaysia? It's all just bloody politics if you ask me. The sudden U-Turn by PAS leaders regarding Hudud is expected (I guess to the dismay of my former college-mate who is active in PAS but cannot do a turn around now). The Malay-Muslim supports are waning because of the Erdogans' lame stand on Hudud and when the leaders realise this, they publicly announce Hudud and Islamic State are still main parts of their agenda. Then, the game is back on. MCA started attacking Hudud and PAS and as you can see, they are on a roll.

But I must say hats off to those in PAS who are strong willed with principles. If people in Malaysia are so scared of hudud, they have to keep asking themselves, do I like to steal, to rape, to rob, to commit adultery, to kill and so on? Why are we supporting the criminals?

For a fact, I have been a fan of this Quranic rule although a former school-mate's wife thought otherwise. She was lucky I did not sue her haha! Living in Riyadh, I do not live in fear but I find it very peaceful because the bad guys are more afraid to commit crimes. If the law is strict, people are more afraid to commit crimes. If you now complain about the escalating number of crime rate, you should not be supporting the criminals now if the government would like to introduce stricter laws.

Of course we have to be realisitic. The word Hudud is a taboo for most Non-Muslims in Malaysia and thats why you will see MCA attacking PAS about it from all angles as we speak. What we should push for is stricter laws to punish the criminals. Few years for statutory rape, two years for the crook Khir Toyo, Indonesians facing the gallows for killing robbers for self defence, robbers only spending overnight at the police station and later released, justice for criminals who were shot by police calling trigger happy, prostitution ring sporadic, drug smuggling will not face death penalty anymore, leaders, public figures and "people with bright future" getting away easily are a few examples why you see people in our country are not afraid of committing crimes.

The problem of Talibans is that they make these rules in a way to show their power, to bring fear to the people as a whole so that their people bow to them like Gods.

For Malaysia, stricter laws should be introduced to bring fear to the CRIMINALS as a whole so that the CRIMINALS bow the good citizens and surrender.

Imperial College Malaysian Night 2010

1. It was a last minute decision to have finally gone to a Malaysian Night for years already. The last time I went, Iedil was still around, entertaining us with his spontaneous acts on stage in the UCL Malaysian Night, never failed to make an old man smile.

2. I really think the Imperial College Malaysian boys and girls did a great job. Very talented people. I was sceptical at first but along the way, they finally made this old man smile.

3. The title was Born to be Vile and the only song that I thought could be associated with it was "Born to be Wild" by Steppin Wolf... and I was right, that song did come out during the interval, and it made this old man smile.

4. All in all, it was a good performance. Singaporean diss was a classic, but received some boos from a section of Singaporean friends. 3.5 stars out of 5. That's good from a grumpy old man me.

5. However, I did notice the number of Chinese Malaysians performing is far greater than other Malaysians. I could only count 3 Malays and 3 Indians (one was really funny imitating Karam Singh Walia). My thought on this is fair because I assume it is due to Imperial College having more Chinese Malaysians than other Malaysians for their Undergraduate Programmes.

6. I might be wrong. Any Imperial College students want to object please do.

7. However, sadly, all good things must have a flaw... and this flaw I'm about to tell you spoilt everything that night (apart from Aaron Ramsey's horrific injury).

8. It was during an interval, a local British lady was asking her Malaysian Chinese friend a simple question. "Why are they all Chinese?" Like me, she was just curious of the number of Malaysian Chinese overpowering other Malaysians like Malays, Indians, Kadazans, Muruts and Ibans.

9. Her Malaysian friend simply said spontaneously, "Because they can speak English".

10. I was shocked; I looked at him, and quickly turned away. I still cannot understand there are still Malaysians out there even in the UK, even during this harmonious Malaysian Night, could be belittling other races.

11. I didn't want to make a scene that night by confronting that boy who clearly has issues with Non-Chinese. It would be a big scene since I am a Non-Chinese and my words can be very hurtful to the core for the racists.

12. I wanted to clarify to the British lady who was misinformed. However I think she is not that naive to know other Malaysians can speak English as well, like the Indian girl who was playing the daughter of the detective and the Malay Datin Kelentong.

EK 346 to Gatwick

It was a different kind of flight this time when I was travelling from KUL to DBX for a transit back to London when there was the three of us, Singaporean Mr Wong, Iranian Max 'Miller' and the Malaysian me sitting in the same row 15-right.

They didn't give me the right first impressions as they were busy discussing about Max's personal encounter with some 'extreme' Malays during his 4 months stay in Malaysia.

Mr Wong, commented further on how he disagrees with some 'extreme' Muslims being so 'rigid' on eating in the same table as non-Muslims because of some pork-issues.

"Cannot touch pork!"

Max kept on repeating how Muslim Malays can be so extreme.

I only offered my opinion in regards with 'extreme' Muslim Malays when dealing with the Zakat fund in which Mr Wong agreed, adding that religious leaders, be it Muslims or Christians or Buddhists (Dalai Lama was mentioned) are 'fat cats' making money out of their respective religions.

We also talked about social problems in our countries but Mr Wong, being outspoken over racial issues in Malaysia had given some strong but sensible comments about how Malaysia can improve as a nation.

We also talked about the crooked bridge with Mahathir being the center of our discussion.

When asked if Singapore is paying so cheap of a price when importing water from Malaysia, Mr Wong agrees. "There is always a room for renegotiation. We know that we are paying at a very cheap price, but Mahathir was not using the right method to discuss. He threatened to switch off the tap but Lee Kuan Yew retaliated by saying 'we will go in and take the water'. We are always willing to pay more since we are a rich nation, but there was no discussion during Mahathir's time. Only fighting."

Mahathir has always been at odds with LKY. No discussion!

Meanwhile, I finally realised why Max was angry with Malay Muslims. It is because that Max is quite a liberal Muslim, his lifestyle will not suit Malay Muslims as most Malay Muslims don't drink alcohol and are biggest fans of Mahmoud Ahmedinejad.

Max is having troubles going in and out the country. Being a lecturer who loves travel he has every reason to disagree with Muslim Malaysians who support the Iranian President.

"We are paying the price for his 'boldness'!"

Apparently Max real name is not Max nor Miller. But Mahdi. He is about 30-40 years old.

Mr. Wong is a big fan of Zaid Ibrahim and also Nik Aziz, although he sometimes dislike the latter's Islamic views.

Mr. Wong is around 50 to 60 years old, a wise old man with a big smile as a weapon. Being a travel agency director that is like a checklist item.

There is one thing that I find really interesting when he told me about a story of an Indian MP in Singapore questioning the 'Special privileges' of the minorities which regards to education and called this privileges to be scrapped.

Yes, there is a special rights for Malays in Singapore I didn't know that.

LKY ticked off the Indian MP by slamming him that he had touched the 'sacred cow'. "This special privileges is enshrined in Singapore's constituency." In a country like Singapore, after a full force of demonising by Mahathir, people in Malaysia, Malays in particular, think that Malays are marginalised in Singapore.

"Under this special rights, Malays are given free education up until university," Mr Wong said.

Yes, PPSMI was also discussed. Mr Wong thinks Malaysia is going backwards by abolishing PPSMI. I added that it should be PPSMII with IT subject included.

"Is this a Mouse or Tetikus?" I barked in annoyance.

I saluted Singapore's brave move to unify all schools into one national school. Some Chinese schools in Singapore kept their Chinese names, but most subjects are taught in English. They can learn Mandarin or Tamil as a third language. Malay language is a compulsory subject.

No wonder the Singaporeans speak English better than us, Singlish or not.

Wa lau wei!

The 2-hour 3-way discussion ended when everyone fell asleep or started watching their favourite movies during the night flight.

I came to a conclusion that again, it's all about respect and knowing each other. Never ever give hate and prejudice the chance to take over our judgments.

Just because Mahathir taught us to hate Singapore (or Lee Kuan Yew), doesn't mean we have to hate Singaporeans.

Just because someone is Iranian, doesn't mean he supports the current President.

We all know that Muslims aren't supposed to eat pork or drink liquor. What you can do is respect their faith and don't simply brand these people extremists since you do eat pork and drink liquor.

We all know that Hindus don't eat beef and they believe that cow is a sacred animal and they do build temples to pray. What you can do is respect their faith and don't simply ask them to go back to India or slaughter this animal in front of them just to provoke them.

We all know that Christians do have their missionary brigades around the world that doesn't mean we should slaughter them and eat their meat just like an incident in Samoa many-many years ago. We also shouldn't allow Al-Islam journalists to snoop around the Christians activities to sell their magazines.

We all know that there are aethists around the world but that doesn't mean they can condemn people's belief in God. They should learn to respect other people's beliefs since most of these people believe in God since they were very young and vowed to have faith in God till the day they die.

How Malay is a Malay Today?

According to the Federal Constitution of Malaysia Article 160,“Malay” means a person who professes the religion of Islam, habitually speaks the Malay language, conforms to Malay custom and -

• (a) was before Merdeka Day born in the Federation or in Singapore or born of parents one of whom was born in the Federation or in Singapore, or was on that day domiciled in the Federation or in Singapore; or
• (b) is the issue of such a person;

Question is what kind of “Malay” do we see nowadays? Maybe it’s wise to look at this definition to see if a Malay today really is… a Malay.

To be claimed as a Malay, the person must profess the religion of Islam. “Profess” in this context would mean “to affirm belief in” or “to practice”. As Muslims, during this holy month of Ramadhan, they are urged by Allah S.W.T to fast during the day, read the Quraan, perform Tarawih prayers or Tahajjud among other things so that they can be closer to Allah.

This Ramadhan alone we saw the following incidents made by Malay Muslims which are against the teachings of Islam:

• The notorious cow-head protest against the free to practice any religion as supported by the Quraan and Hadith.
• Insulting another religion by stepping and spitting a sacred animal’s head, according to the Hindu beliefs.
• Disrespecting the animal by calling it stupid while Allah sees all animals are of great benefits to mankind.
• Name callings and unable to control emotion during a leaders-residents dialogue when actually fasting teaches us to be patient.
• During a by-election final speech, a prominent leader was seen accusing another man of KILLING a woman without strong evidence – Fitnah and gossiping are strongly prohibited especially during Ramadhan.
• Some were trying to take the rights away from a Muslim mother-of-two wanting to be a good Muslimah by accepting the Syariah Law punishment for drinking.
• Muslim men caught not fasting without showing evidence of rukhsah (exclusions)
• Muslims caught drinking alcohol, having close proximity (khalwat), taking drugs, gambling and zina (adultery).

Thus, can these people still be called Malays as they do not practice Islam correctly?

Next, a Malay should habitually speaks the Malay language. However some even too shameful to even speak the National Language for example:

• “I sound stupid when I speak Malay,” – some actress I can’t remember her name
• Trying in vain to copy the slang of the local people in London even though they are talking to fellow Malaysians.
• “WHATT??? I mean… Whu-k? (British slang)” - classic Londoner-wannabe blooper.

And finally, a Malay should conform to Malay custom… don’t make me started on this one because it will only trouble the Malaysiakini editors to fit the pages. Okay I will give one quote as an example:

“What are you wearing? Baju Melayu? Ish, you are so KAMPUNG!”

You got a knack of saying things that wasn't said.These are the people who died in detention, whose death was not documented properly and in most cases, are nameless victims.
